MOUNT VERNON – A New Celebration for Cycling Enthusiasts Awaits

A new event is being launched in Mount Vernon, Ohio, that will bring cyclists of all levels together to celebrate the joy of cycling, community, and the breathtaking beauty of the area’s fall foliage. Cyclists and trail users are invited to experience a weekend of cycling and celebration at Ariel-Foundation Park from October 3 to 5.

Ariel-Foundation Park – The Perfect Venue

Ariel-Foundation Park is the ideal venue for this inaugural event. The park offers a range of scenic trails, including the famous Ohio to Erie Trail and the Kokosing Gap Trail. These trails cater to cyclists of all skill levels, from families to seasoned road warriors, and offer stunning views of the surrounding countryside.

Supporting a Good Cause

The Knox County Biketoberfest (KCBO) aims to support the Outdoor Pursuits Bicycle Development Fund, which has contributed over $1 million to bicycle infrastructure and advocacy across Ohio. This fund supports the development of bike trails, bike lanes, and other cycling infrastructure, helping to make cycling more accessible and enjoyable for everyone.

  • Participants can choose between traditional road routes and scenic rides along the famous Ohio to Erie Trail, with options to explore the Kokosing Gap Trail and the Heart of Ohio Trail.
  • More challenging routes are also available for experienced riders, including the legendary Knox County Bicycle Challenge through Amish country.
  • A memorial ride will be held in honor of James “Jim” P. Buchwald, a prominent inventor, entrepreneur, and community steward from Knox County.

Memorial Ride in Honor of James Buchwald

The memorial ride will explore the Kokosing Gap Trail from Mount Vernon northeast through to Glenmont. This ride will honor the memory of James Buchwald, who loved cycling the trails, supporting local development, and was a true champion of the community.

“Choosing to honor Jim during this event felt right,” said Ohio to Erie Trail President and Knox County native, Tom Bilcze. “Jim loved cycling the trails, supporting efforts in local development, and we know he’d love to see such a large group of cyclists celebrating in Knox County.”

Downtown Mount Vernon – A Hub of Activity

Downtown Mount Vernon will be a hub of activity, with participants having easy access to two community festivals happening the same weekend. The Johnny Appleseed Fall Festival will take place on Friday night, and the Knox Foodies Food Truck Festival will be held on Sunday afternoon.
